In just 2 months since we started our MONA facebook fan page we have seen our fan base jump to more than 500 strong. Help us continue to spread the word about MONA and reach that 1,000 fan mark by suggesting to all your friends to “Like” of MONA.  With our fan page up and running we have created  a variety of interactive projects for neon enthusiasts to participate with MONA such as our monthly online photo/video contest juried by well-known photographers and video artists in Los Angeles.  Each month three winners are selected from a chosen neon related-theme and exhibited in our artshop for Art Walk.

In March for our first competition we picked a broad theme on Night Photography and connected with Gary Leonard of Take My Picture Gallery in Downtown LA to select three winners. Gary picked Li Li from Culver City, Eric Longdren from San Francisco, and Lauren Cols0n from Nashville.  MONA was thrilled to see the excitement our fans had on neon light and signs through their photo posts as well as connecting with fans worldwide.  In April we narrowed the theme by focusing on Light & Speed with the help of Mel Melcon of the Los Angeles Time who selected Li Li (consecutive winner), and Josue Zeta from Mexico City/Los Angeles, and Zachary Istrin from Santa Monica.   Josue and Zach never knew about the museum until they found us on facebook, and after winning the contest they came out to Art Walk to visit the museum for the first time!  Mel Melcon also gave an excellent presentation to our third Thursday Meet Up photo night where he presented a special talk and critic on photojournalism for online newspapers by working with still images and sound collection.  Watch Mel’s story beat in LA Times called Pop.u.LA.tion: Stories from the Sidewalk.

Video Vignette Competition Deadline: May 5th, 9PM on facebook

In May we will try a facebook video contest on Light & Motion, juried by Hans Fjellestad, curator of RESBOX and director of the MOOG documentary.  The videos will then be exhibited in our new black box room.  There are two more weeks left to submit your short video vignette on light to our facebook video fan album.
