Join MONA at a special KNOTT’S PRESERVED book signing with MONA’s Neon Cruise expert Eric Lynxwiler! Eric  Lynxwiler and Chris Merrit will unveil their new and very limited book release “Knott’s Preserved: From Boysenberry to Theme Park, the History of Knott’s Berry Farm.” With over 200 photos, rarely seen conceptual art, and interviews with the park’s original designers and the Knott family, this 160-page book gives an overview of the Farm from its earliest years to the present day. Make sure to stay and pick up your personal copy signed by Lynxwiler and Merrit. Starting promptly at 7PM, Merrit will share a short 20-minute photo/video presentation offering an inside-look at Knott’s great and early black-light-illuminated attractions including the not-to-be-forgotten Knott’s Bear-y Tales dark ride! Lynxwiler will also be available to sign copies of his first book, Wilshire Boulevard: Grand Concourse of Los Angeles. (FREE for all MONA members! Price of admission for non-members.)

The First Friday Music Series at MONA features an adventurous evening of emerging and talented musicians performing a variety of music genres from avante-garde, jazz, folk, rock, experimental, hip-hop to techno. The illuminated lights of the museum lends itself to a unique musical experience with its surreal backdrop of pulsating neon signs, glass, and electric art.  In our Friday April 2nd, Michael McTaggart and his fellow band the Alliance, received excellent reviews with a feature in Flavorpill. The show ended with a packed-house of listeners and a surprise guest performance by Alex Isley, daughter of one of the Isley Brothers.  MONA is thrilled to have a great lineup for May and June with two amazing  bands.   Alternative rock sensations Radius performs Friday, May 7th in which they will have recently returned from touring with the band, Everclear,  in Canada.  In 2009 Radius was nominated for the best rock song, “My World,” at the Hollywood Music Awards.  On Friday, June 4th, the band, Ubyk, will perform a special audiovisual show with video art projections specifically created for MONA’s exhibition space.

The Los Angeles Video Artists (LAVA) is having a VJ 101 workshop for beginners at MONA this Sunday May 9th. This 5 hour workshop will cover the brief history of VJing, content creation, basic setup, hands-on software tutorial using AVmixer Pro, and how to use Game/MIDI devices as controllers. Work with the There will be a hands-on practice session and free soda provided by Jarritos.  Pre-registration is recommended due to limited capacity of 20, please pay the $10 workshop fee ($8.00 for MONA members!) through PayPal to register.
